About RFOS

Come and join us!

Rock Ferry Operatic Society is a small friendly society and we would love to welcome new members of all ages from 16 plus. Whether you are new to amateur dramatics and like the idea of trying something different or whether you are an experienced performer you will be made very welcome.

We are short of young members at present so younger performers joining will find that there are good opportunities for young leading roles and lots of encouragement from our longer standing members. Children under 16 are able to join us from time to time for individual shows. Singing, acting, dancing, directing, accompanying rehearsals, building sets, designing and making costumes and props and organizing fund raising events – if you like the sound of any or all of these – why not get in touch and get involved?

The society is one of the oldest on Merseyside with the earliest performances recorded in the 1880s. Originally known as Rock Ferry Amateur Operatic Society, since its foundation it has presented a great variety of operas, operettas and musicals including the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, Viennese Operetta and popular American Musicals. Check out some of our past productions here on the website.

We rehearse on Thursday evenings at Prenton Methodist Church – Glenavon Road, Birkenhead CH43 0RE – from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm. Rehearsals are fun and engaging and offer something for everyone! There is a weekly charge of £3.00 per rehearsal (£2.00 for members 16+ still in full time education) which goes towards the cost of pianist and hire of the rehearsal space. In addition there is an annual membership fee of £35 (which can be paid in installments across the year if preferred.)

If you would like to join us as a performing or non-performing member, just come along to Prenton Methodist Church where you will receive a warm welcome in a friendly atmosphere. If you would like to come along to one of our rehearsals, even for a taster, contact us by email at rockferryoperatic@hotmail.co.uk.
