Cranford

November 2024 saw RFOS staging an original play with songs. A new adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s classic Victorian novel. Written especially for RFOS by Catherine Neal it provided a heartwarming story with romance, laughter and tears and a wealth of wonderful characters. Songs were a carefully chosen selection of traditional songs, carols and ballads from the Victorian period – some familiar to our audience and some new to everyone.

Directed by the society’s musical director Jane Davenport it was staged at The Carlton Little Theatre in Birkenhead for two performances in November. A perfect time for staging as the play’s action has some lovely Christmas scenes. The production was much enjoyed by cast, crew and audience.
